Ladakh to roll out first edition of ‘The Himalayan Film Festival’ on September 25

A competition will be organised for short films and documentaries to recognise talented filmmakers in the Himalayan region. The opening ceremony will begin by showcasing the recent blockbuster Shershah, and the festival will conclude with The Shepherdess of Glacier movie.


Ladakh is all set to inaugurate the very first edition of The Himalayan Film Festival 2021 (THFF). The festival will commence from September 24 at Leh, and will conclude on September 28. The 5-day film fest is being organised by the Administration of Union Territory of Ladakh, the Directorate of Film Festivals, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India.

Anurag Singh Thakur, Minister of Information and Broadcasting Sports & Youth Affairs, will inaugurate the festival as the chief guest. As per the information, the festival is a part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebration, which is commemorating 75 years of Independence.

Local filmmakers are an important part of the Himalayan film festival, and will get a chance to showcase their talent. Filmmakers from 12 Himalayan states and UTs will participate in the festival. Some notable movies from Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Sikkim, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Ladakh will be shown during this time. In addition to this, Indian Panorama selected films will also be showcased during the festival. The festival will also see masterclasses on editing, wildlife, direction and acting by different people. The main aim is to impart necessary skills and networking opportunities to Himalayan filmmakers, both budding and established. The film festival will also see eminent personalities including Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Anupama Chopra, Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Kirti Kulhari.
